Aging in Place is a Growing Trend

The subject of aging in place will become a permanent page here at Smaller and Simpler. The need for simple remodeling to allow people to remain in their existing home will continue to grow in popularity as more and more people are trapped without equity in their current home. We will also explore combining aging in place modifications, with simple green building solutions in coming blogs. Enjoy this introduction.

Looks at remodeling trends focusing on the increasingly popular and profitable niche of aging-in-place. Older adults with the help of certified remodelers, are remodeling so they can remain in their homes longer. There's some very real demographic and social reasons driving the popularity of aging in place which is occurring nationwide and in every market. The 2000 census for instances found that nearly 4 million households have three or more generations living together.

Needing to Downsize and Simplify !

I know that I need to work on downsizing and simplifying most areas of life. I've been working on it too. I've sold my second home, I've even sold my primary home. I've had a few yard sales and I am real close to getting rid of that 3rd storage unit. We still have 2 cars, but I'll be working towards only one. My business is still a tangle, but I am also working to get that down to size. I know I need simpler daily routines as well. I am ready to really work on this and get life down to a sustainable, more comfortable existence. No, really, I am, and you should be too!

I am really talking to everybody out there, we all need simplification, but I'm speaking particularly to those fellow Baby Boomers who are past their prime earning potential, with substantially drained retirement funds in a still failing economy with a not too rosy future financial outlook. I'm talking to all of us who have had very fruitful, but frankly, complex existences over the last 20 or 30 years. It is time to simplify. Are you with me?
