Aging in Place Design

With the demographic tsunami of the baby boom generation now reaching senior status, at precisely the same time as an extremely depressed real estate market, many find themselves trapped in their current homes. The day of jumping from home to home, with increasing equity at each jump, looks to be over for the foreseeable future. The need for Aging in Place solutions has never been more acute.

It is my goal to develop a comprehensive "how to" site dedicated to bringing new design strategies for aging in place, together with simple green building concepts. I propose to include detailed resources for both new construction and remodeling.

One key concept for both is the need to carefully mask or allow for easy change-out of some of the more intense elements of aging in place, such as lifts, accessible showers and tubs, etc.

I am convinced that with simple, clever, and well thought out design this marriage of concepts is easily achievable.
